so i havent been on runnerspace in a long time. but season is starting back up and i am back as well.

i wont be beating you at the games but i will be trying to post more blogs (if anyone cares to read them)

but our first meet is here on saturday the 21st. so here is how my season has been going

it started off pretty great. a lot of great practices and even though i feel week compared to the other guys in the weight room, i have to remember that i didnt lift last year and they have been getting amazing workout programs 3 days a week by coach radcliff who is really into lifting. he always keeps me honest. and now that we work in Kilograms i dont really understand how strong i have been getting. we maxed out one day and i got 110kg in the clean. its not much but for me i was quite surprised when you convert it to Lbs its 242.5lbs which is like 40lbs more than i can ever remember doing, and i know i am strong now (a few months after we maxed last)

some of the season went down hill. it got kind of frustrating, i was really moving fast on the runway until i pulled my groin a little bit, a few weeks off going light, and i cant say i did the rehab as much as i should have but after a month or so it was about 90% and then with only 2 throws left in practice i hurt it again. more time off, more rehab and finally i am back from that.

a few weeks later my forearm started to act up. it was getting really tight. i was probably gripping the javelin a little too tight and it was over working my forearm. coach deal (our throws coach) is an american record holder, a world record holder, and hes the best massage therapist in the state, so he worked on it for me, and its never felt better. i dont know if its because of the time off or because of his miracle hands but i am super happy.

all the injuries got me down, i was hitting a low point and not looking forward to the oregon preivew. i am only going to be throwing from a short approach and i wasnt confident with anything.

then last week we had our day for throwing, it was a great day out, and i started throwing and everything just clicked. i was throwing easy, from my short approach and i was throwing about 63-66m every throw. it was the exact confidence boost i needed to get me ready for the preview

the furthest throw i have seen at the preview in the last 3 years has been 217feet so i feel pretty good. i am not saying i am going to win it for sure. i could throw bad still, or i could throw well and someone could still throw better. but i just havent been throwing good for a while so its a good reminder that i know i have big throws in me.

its hard when you have a PR and you practice for months never getting close to it and you cant image how you ever did it in the first place. you cant even think if you know how to throw, what made you do it all those months ago? well thats how i felt. but at least since i was throwing 66m from a short approach at practice i can see that with a full approach and adrenaline from the meet i can say that i know its possible to go further

goal for this year is 253 UofO school record. we will see where the season takes me.
