On ril 11th at 7:07am Lane's Charter bus packed up and left to Spokane Washington for WAOR I, the Oregon vs. Washington meet. In was more like a Pre-NWAACC meet, we got to see the Spokane (which is where NWAACCs will be held this year) and we got to go up against last years confrence winners (Spokane CC). I was ecstatic, the weather was supose to be about 70 degrees, sun shining in all its glory, it ws going to be a perfect day to set a new PR for everyone. i knew that the sun would zap my energy if i was out in it too long but the meet started at 10am and my event was at 11:30am so i didnt have the problem of a long wait and having to stay out of the sun.

i watched the girls throw and hopefully gave them some encouragement to throw farther. i got to see Danica throw 122' and a few inches. i knew she would be able to do it, she was doing it in practice on Thursday. i was really happy for her, but she had 5 more events throughout the day so she ran off and the guys javelin was center stage.

the javelin runway was off to the side and out of the way, there were so many people doing other events that there was no support from team mates or friends, i was kinda hoping that they would be there to cheer me on to a big throw.

i was favored to win, and on paper i was 22 feet ahead of the second best thrower from spokane. it wasa huge lead that was a guaranteed win for me. basically i just had to show up and throw and i would win.

warm ups were amazing i was feeling great. i knew this was the day that i could say i was a 220'+ thrower. a few warm up throws on the javelin runway from 4 steps and i was soaring javelins over the event markers heads, landing around 200'. i moved back to my half approach and let it rip. i threw a little hard because i actually screamed a little when i threw and it was just a warm up. but the javelin soared perfectly, according to Shae Murray it was 220'+ and that was just a warm up is what i was thinking.

i didnt want to throw my arm out before the meet. i dont throw enough in the week's practice in order to have a lot of endurance. so far we have only had meets where i throw four throws and leave. this was going to be the test of how many throws i could take being as there were 3 preliminary throws and 3 finals. i just found my mark from last weeks meet and got ready for the first throw.

so far i had already moved back my initial approach half a javelin length and a big step (approx 5-6 feet) on my first throw i could tell that i was way ahead and it was going to be hard not to foul. i went for it anyway, i blocked right on the line and had no chance. the flight was bad so i wasnt too worried. i moved my appoarch back another javelin length (approx 8-9 feet) second throw was up and i was jacked! my best throws always come on the first or second. the approach was fast and it looked like i was going to be able to block in time. i really hit it! chest up and the javelin just seemed to soar. it was huge. but i was a foot and a half over the line. it was a scratch. but the event markers in the field didnt hear the official say scratch. they started pulling tons of feet of tape out to the point of the javelin. and Cody Fleming my throws coach looked at the tape to see what it was approximately at. he wont tell me what it was but i am sure it was 225'+. i was going insane. if i didnt get a throw in the sector then i scratch out of the meet and score no points. i 4 stepped my way to a clean throw. marked at about 180' i was disappointed. being as i was throwing 200' on a four step in warm ups i knew my arm was tired. the chances of me cleanly coming through the point and throwing big were really low. but i still had to get the win and save face.

finals came up and i was in 3rd place. another full apporoach that looked great and it was a scratch. i went over the line by half an inch. my fifth throw my arm was tired and my left foot big toe felt like it was bleeding from being smashed into the top of my shoe. right before i blocked i was in so much pain that i didnt want to hit a block hard again. so i let up and blew threw my block leg. it was a terrible throw but better than my previous. marked at 58.11m or 190'7" it was the new leading throw but nothing to be happy about. i had too much speed to block hard anymore so i was thinking about my half approach that went 220' earlier that day. i can block hard from there maybe i can get a 200' throw and come away with the win. Cody didnt want me to do that. he didnt want me to let up. but it was my 6th and final throw and i was so tired! i had to at least get the win. from half approach i threw one and from the second i released it i knew i had just lost the meet.

it wasnt over though, i guess i was still leading thrower by a few inches or maybe just a foot. gabe rodrigez was the final thrower and the only one that had a real chance of winning this. he had a real nice flight on the javelin and as the official marked it he said well sorry cyrus i dont think you are going to be getting a Cyrus O'leary pie (fresh pies were being given to the winners of each event) he marked him at 58.19m he had beat me by 3 inches. this truly is probably the low point in my javelin collegiate and high school career.

next week we go to Redding California. and its going to be great weather. and i promise i wont make any mistakes twice.
